Vietnam currently does not exempt Chinese citizens from visa requirements. According to Vietnamese law, Chinese citizens holding ordinary passports must obtain a visa to enter Vietnam. Visas can be obtained at Vietnamese embassies or consulates in China. However, there are certain special cases in which Chinese citizens are exempt from visas, as follows:
Holders of diplomatic, official, or ordinary passports on official duty: These individuals are granted visa-free entry for stays of up to 30 days. This applies to Chinese citizens carrying diplomatic or official passports for governmental duties, facilitating official missions between the two countries without the hassle of complex visa procedures.
Family members of diplomatic or consular staff: Spouses, children, and parents of administrative or technical staff at Chinese diplomatic and consular missions in Vietnam are also eligible for visa exemption when entering Vietnam for family visits. This policy supports diplomatic personnel and their families in maintaining close ties while serving abroad.
Crew members of Chinese airlines: Members of Chinese airline crews (including those from third-country carriers) on flights between the two countries since November 1, 2008, are exempt from visas for up to 30 days. This policy allows for ease of crew rotation or handling unforeseen travel circumstances.
In summary, while Chinese citizens with ordinary passports are generally required to obtain visas to enter Vietnam, exceptions are made for certain categories such as official duties, family visits, and aviation-related activities. These regulations aim to promote bilateral cooperation while ensuring efficient immigration management.
