Cases in Which Chinese Nationals Require a Visa to Enter Vietnam

Vietnam currently does not grant visa exemptions to Chinese citizens. Pursuant to Vietnamese law, Chinese nationals holding ordinary passports must obtain a visa to enter Vietnam. Visas can be applied for at Vietnamese consular posts or embassies in China. However, there are certain exceptional cases in which Chinese nationals are exempt from visa requirements when entering Vietnam, as follows:

  1.   Chinese nationals holding diplomatic passports, official-service passports, and ordinary passports for official business: These individuals are exempt from visa requirements for a maximum stay of 30 days. This applies to Chinese nationals holding diplomatic and official-service passports performing official duties, facilitating the performance of official functions between the two countries without complicated visa procedures.
  2.   Family members of officials and administrative-technical staff at Chinese diplomatic missions and consular posts in Vietnam: Spouses, children, and parents of officials and staff of Chinese representative offices in Vietnam are also exempt from visa requirements when entering Vietnam to visit family members. This policy supports diplomatic officials and their families in maintaining close relations during their assignments.
  3.   Crew members of Chinese airlines: Crew members of Chinese airlines (including crews of third-country airlines) performing duties on flights between the two countries since November 1, 2008, are exempt from visa requirements. The visa exemption period for them is 30 days, facilitating crew changes between flights or handling unforeseen circumstances.

In summary, although Chinese nationals holding ordinary passports generally require a visa to enter Vietnam, special cases such as official business, family visits, or international aviation-related activities are granted visa exemptions for a specified period. These regulations aim to promote cooperation between the two countries while ensuring rational and effective immigration management.
